I've been a fan of the Dune series since I was twelve, and I first saw the movie about that time. I do enjoy the movie, however, I can see that it would be difficult to follow without having read the book. I read that David Lynch cut about an hour from the movie's length, that hour probably would've been better left in to help move the story a little more smoothly. It didn't stay true to the book completely, but the book is so detailed that I don't see how any movie could really capture it totally. At any rate, the movie is an enjoyable experience, if a little choppy, but seeing as how it was approved by Frank Herbert himself that is unimportant. All in all I give this movie a seven on a scale of one to ten.

I remember it being a big deal when it came out and that the gate keepers at the theater handed out a paper of word definitions. The first time you see the film, it's probably a little too much to take in and understand. But watching it as an adult, I like it even more. This is David Lynches almost near masterpiece. Mel Ferrer with an earring lol, the always creepy Brad Dourif, Freddie Jones with big eyebrows, Jean Luc Picard, Max Von Sydow etc. Toto outdid themselves with the soundtrack very underrated.

Now these problems have seemingly vanished before out eyes ; structural integrity and narrative fluidity have returned, sense and meaning cohere ( like a distant blur coming back into focus* and order of storyline, feeling strong and complete, the sense of storytelling itself is now beautifully realized, complete. I cant imagine this DUNE being any better and I have loved DUNE for years, this cut is perfection as far as Im concerned, fans of this film and David Lynch owe You a tremendous debt, DUNE fans, film lovers in general and historians ; the film is made new yet familiar, an amazing achievement ; everything is as it should be with every decision and artistic flourish fulfilled. We all owe spicediver our sincere gratitude, as do I, THANKYOU.
